The power of the words

Words are powerful and are often selected very carefully by journalists. Can the selection of one word over another impact the effect of a message? What words are defined as powerful? Share with us in a post at least 200 words long an instance when powerful words were used? What happened? Were they content appropriate? In what instances would you use these words for effect? And, in what instances would you avoid using them?

I would define powerful words as the secret of the success. Everybody wants to be successful, but most people don’t know what makes people stand out from the crowd. The key to be successful depends in what you says and how you says something.

In the advertising world powerful words are used every day. If you take any product (drink, car, house) and you look how the product is promoted. The most of the time, you will find that a positive and power word is used to build up an image. A power word creates an impression in our minds and it can also describe how the personality of a person is.

Powerful words can affect people in a positive or negative way. A positive word used to demand obedience. Positives words indicate belief, values and attitudes. For example, Within companies s, if I say 'this is profitable' to an executive, he or she will be hard put to turn me down.

Just as positive words give you power, there are also words which will take you away this power. For example, saying 'sexual harassment is not that important' will make you a subject of attack and people will distance from you. Negative words are scary and rejected by society. Just only being seen to be associate with them is enough to make people run away from you. For example the word "cancer" is seen as a taboo which people used to avoid because they are afraid of the illness itself. Insults are also considered negative words. Such words are even more emotionally charged and will provoke others into strong reaction. But these words are also really powerful because they are used to avoid things that you don't want. For example, if the "pope" says "condoms are forbidden because they are sin" the believers will almost immediately trough away them.

In conclusion, I think that powerful words, negative or positive, create an impression in our minds. The successful people use words that create a mental image. They use powerful words in advertising that have appeal to emotion. To become successful, we need to provide benefits to other people. You can be more successful in promoting your product if you learn how to use powerful words.
